Durham District School Board (DDSB) last night tweeted an update on in-person learning for January 19, saying: “At this time, we anticipate that schools will be open.
“Snow removal is ongoing across the region. Please know that there is the possibility for delays to occur and it may take longer to get to school.”
Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) yesterday said: “As we prepare for all possible situations tomorrow, we are optimistic that DCDSB schools will reopen on Jan 19.”
Durham Student Transportation Services (DSTS) is monitoring ongoing snow removal efforts across the region.
“We’re monitoring the situation as staff shortages due to Covid-19 and the delay in snow plowing could have impacts on individual school’s ability to open safely, DCDSB said.
“We’ll keep families updated as we receive more info. In the event schools are unable to open in-person learning all students (elementary & secondary) should be prepared for teacher-led remote learning.” it added.
Schools across Ontario were scheduled to reopen for in-class learning on Monday January 17, but the snowstorm and the ensuing snow clearing operations, delayed in-person learning for the past two days.
