Basketball courts, a skate park or even a skating path? Township of Scugog yesterday asked its young residents to come up with ideas on what they would like to see in the design of the new waterfront plan.
The township pointed out that the Port Perry waterfront area is an important tourism, culture, recreation and economic development asset.
“The township is working on a Waterfront Action Plan, which will make recommendations and improvements for the lands along the waterfront; to ensure that Port Perry continues to be a vibrant and thriving community for residents and visitors,” said a statement.
It said an extensive public consultation campaign called #MyWaterfront was launched last year to gain feedback and ideas for the future plans for this area. The waterfront includes the lands that stretch from Birdseye Park in the north, along the waterfront, down to the lands located behind the business area along Highway 7A.
A copy of the emerging preferred plan for the Port Perry Waterfront is available at my.scugog.ca/waterfront. A few elements being proposed as part of the emerging preferred plan include:
- A new building for the marina with a space for seniors, community uses and public washrooms
- Relocation of the northern baseball diamond to create a youth focused zone (skateboard, basketball)
- Improvements to the boat launch and a proposed kayak and paddle board launch area
- New washroom facilities
- Landscaped terraces, natural seating and public art
- Providing a connected trail system
