Scugog asks residents to help decide budget

Scugog, Ontario – The Township of Scugog is preparing the 2022 budget and wants to hear from residents and property owners about their budget priorities. Scugog provides programs and services to the community based on an annual Operating and Capital budget. The Township is continuing to recover from COVID-19 with a focus on the health and safety of our residents. Road, bridge and sidewalk improvements still remain a top priority for the Mayor and Council.

As with many other municipalities across Canada, the infrastructure deficit continues to be a major issue that we must continue to address. The Township has made a difference with their multi-year funding plan, however there is still a long way to go. Solid budget planning will continue to allow for upgrades to existing roads, bridges, piers, parks and equipment to better serve the community.

Input from the community is a vital part of the budget planning process. Let us know where you would like your tax dollars directed. Visit my.scugog.ca/budget to provide your input to the 2022 Budget in the survey. Survey deadline is Thursday, September 30th. In addition to the budget feedback form, the My Scugog site provides information on how a municipal budget is built; the budget process timeline; Budget Facts; Frequently Asked Questions; and a form for you to complete to ask a question. Scugog Finance staff are monitoring the site and will respond to questions submitted. They are listening and ready to help you fit the pieces of the budget process puzzle together.

Virtual public open house meetings will be hosted in November to review the draft Capital Budget, and in February to review the draft Operating Budget. Details on how to participate in the virtual open house meetings will be communicated at Scugog.ca/news and through social media @ TwpofScugog.
