Durham housing study report open for residents

Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham is undertaking a Growth Management Study as part of Envision Durham, the Municipal Comprehensive Review of the Regional Official Plan. The first Phase of the Growth Management Study focuses on the preparation of a Land Needs Assessment.

To assist with the preparation of the Land Needs Assessment, a Housing Intensification Study Technical Report is currently available for public review.

When: Any comments on the Housing Intensification Study Technical Report are requested by October 4, 2021.

Why: The Housing Intensification Study is the second in a series of technical reports being presented through the Land Needs Assessment process. The purpose of the report is to document the capacity for accommodating residential and mixed-use growth within the region’s built-up area, determine the intensification potential of strategic growth areas, as well as to provide policy recommendations, including recommendations on refinements to the Region’s Urban Structure and intensification targets.

Where: The Housing Intensification Study Technical Report is available at durham.ca/EnvisionDurham. Those wishing to provide any input may do so by submitting comments to EnvisionDurham@durham.ca.

Note: As Council’s core planning document, the Regional Official Plan guides Regional decision-making on long-term growth and development.

Envision Durham is an opportunity to deliver a new forward-looking official plan that will guide growth and change in Durham in the years ahead – providing the blueprint for Durham to become known as the place to live, learn and thrive by 2051.
