Scugog property tax rise of 2.43% lowest so far…

The Township of Scugog has announced that a balanced operating budget was presented to and approved by council.

The increase rate came in at 2.43 per cent, which is under the 2.5 per cent target initially set, said a township statement.

It is the lowest increase announced for 2023 so far this year in Durham (see below).

With this rate, property owners can expect an increase of $10.57 per month on an average property assessed at $420,000, it explained.

Scugog property tax increase in 2022 was 2 per cent.

It said nearly half of this increase is a result of continued investment in assets to address their condition, while the remainder is primarily due to inflation.

“In today’s economy, price increases are required to offer the same level of service. The pie chart below highlights how your taxes are divided throughout the Township of Scugog’s services per dollar,” said the statement.

  • Durham Region 5.2% (2.6% in 2022)
  • Ajax 3% (2.31% in 2022) + 2% infrastructure levy
  • Whitby 5.98% (2.2% in 2022)
  • Clarington 4.06% (1.99% in 2022)
  • Oshawa 4.98% (1.85% in 2022)
