KPR high schools get grant for high-tech machines

The Ontario government is investing $77,200 to purchase high-tech machines for high schools in Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board.

The aim is to help young people gain the skills they need to prepare for careers in tooling and machining, said a statement issued Friday.

“This funding will allow students in the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board to continue their path towards careers in the tooling and machining industries”, said Todd McCarthy, Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Durham. “Our students will benefit from hands-on learning with high-tech machinery provided by Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, as they explore the world of skilled trades”.

Equipment deliveries for the program began last November, and range from CNC milling centres, lathes, and plasma cutters, to CNC desktop milling machines, high-precision conventional milling machines, lathes with readouts, and more. In addition, each school will receive tool kits and cutting tools.

“Today’s announcement, and the new state-of-art plasma cutter that has been made possible to support 21st century skill building for our students here at Bowmanville HS, is another example of the innovative and creative accomplishments that can be possible when we work together in partnership,” said Steve Russell, Chairperson, Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board.
