Six teens steal car, force one into trunk and try to flee

Durham Police investigators arrested six youths after a brief pursuit of a stolen vehicle in north Whitby on Tuesday night.

On March 22 at about 11 pm, members of Central West Division responded to an unknown trouble call on Queen Street. A citizen called 911 after observing a male being assaulted and forced into the trunk of a white Subaru, said a police statement.

Police located the vehicle and after a short pursuit, the stolen Subaru eventually stopped. Four youths were arrested at the scene and two others who fled on foot were arrested a short distance away. Police seized an imitation firearm and the stolen vehicle.

All six youths, ranging from 12 to 17 years of age faces charges in relation to the stolen vehicle. Two of the teens, a 16-year-old from Scarborough and a 15-year-old of Hamilton face additional charges relating to the forcible confinement and they include: Forcible Confinement x2; Assault; Point Firearm and Carry Concealed Weapon

The 15-year-old male was held for a bail hearing and all other youths were released on Undertakings.
