Soper Creek Trail to close from July to September

The Municipality of Clarington yesterday announced that the Soper Creek Trail will be closed for the summer.

The municipality said it has been notified by GHD about upcoming work to install a sanitary sewer for the Timber Trails subdivision in Bowmanville. This work will impact the Soper Creek Trail at Mearns Park, which will be closed to public access during the July 15 – September 15 construction period.

Mearns Park will remain open, and a pedestrian detour route with identified signage will be placed in designated areas, the municipality said.

Construction timeline:

  • Week of July 2: Installation begins on all necessary sediment/erosion control fencing and construction fencing to mark the construction boundaries.
  • Week of July 8: Site preparation begins on the east side of the Soper Creek Trail.
  • July 15-September 15: Active construction period on the sanitary sewer installation. During this time, Soper Creek Trail at Mearns Park will be closed.

Construction will take place between 7 am and 7 pm Monday to Saturday, and the contractor will make all efforts to minimize the inconvenience and trail closure during this time.
