Several new catholic schools are in the works according to the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB).
“With great interest in Catholic schools in a growing community comes the need for new schools and additions,” said Morgan Ste. Marie, DCDSB Board of Trustees Chair.
Ontario announced it is investing $5.4 million in a Catholic School in Whitby to create 184 new student spaces.
Other projects include:
- An addition on St Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic School nearing completion;
- The building of St. Carlo Acutis Catholic School, a new elementary school in the Seaton community of Pickering;
- The early stages of a new Catholic elementary school in the Kedron community of north Oshawa;
- The replacement school for Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School in its new location in north Oshawa at Harmony Rd and Greenhill Avenue
St Luke
The new addition at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic School, is being made to create more student spaces in a growing community. St. Luke is located at 55 Twin Streams Road in Whitby.
Once complete, the project will add eight classrooms and provide 184 new elementary student spaces for families in the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB).
“Our government is making the investments needed to keep up with growth and deliver modern schools for hard-working Whitby families,” said Lorne Coe, MPP for Whitby,
“The addition at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic School will meet the needs of increased interest in Catholic education in our growing Whitby community by creating modern, welcoming learning spaces where students can thrive academically, spiritually, and socially,” said Morgan Ste. Marie, DCDSB Board of Trustees Chair.
“With this announcement, we have begun the process of building on the success of similar projects and are prepared to move forward with a plan to have the space ready by September 2027, pending approvals and tendering within the approved funding allocation. We are grateful to the Government of Ontario, Minister Calandra, and MPP Coe, for their continued support of Catholic education in the Town of Whitby and Durham Region.”
