Staff tip off police about M4-style rifle at Pickering Casino

Durham police said one woman is in custody and a firearm has been seized following an incident at the Pickering Casino Hotel.

According to Durham Regional Police, officers from West Division responded to a call from hotel staff on Sunday, May 4, around 3:35 pm. Staff reported finding a firearm in one of the hotel rooms at 888 Durham Live Avenue.

Following the initial response, police identified two suspects who were guests at the hotel. In the early hours of Monday, May 5, around 12:25 am, members of the West Division Criminal Investigative Branch executed a Criminal Code search warrant. During the search, police say they seized an M4A1 Carbine rifle along with a fully loaded magazine.

One of the suspects, a female, was arrested without incident. A male suspect remains at large, and police say a warrant is being sought for his arrest.

The investigation is ongoing.

A 21-year-old female, from Ajax was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
