Study on Bloor Street widening to four lanes

The Regional Municipality of Durham is initiating a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) study for the realignment and widening of Bloor Street (Regional Road 22).

The project encompasses Bloor Street from east of Harmony Road (Regional Road 33) to Grandview Street, in the City of Oshawa, said a city media release.

The realignment and widening of Bloor Street was identified in the Durham Transportation Master Plan 2017 (TMP) as the preferred solution to address operational deficiencies, road safety and increasing traffic volumes.

This study will proceed in accordance with Phases 3 and 4 of the Schedule ‘C’ MCEA planning process. It will review alternative design concepts for the Bloor Street alignment with widening to 4 lanes, including a Canadian Pacific Railway grade separation, a new bridge crossing of Farewell Creek and modifications at the Bloor Street and Grandview Street intersection.

The study is also being coordinated with planned improvements to the Ministry of Transportation’s Highway 401 interchange at Harmony Road.

A key component of the study is consultation with interested stakeholders and public input during the planning process is encouraged. A Public Information Centre is anticipated in late spring 2020 to present the study process, existing conditions, the evaluation of alternatives and the next steps in the study.
