Suspect arrested soon after murder of taxi driver

Durham Police have made an arrest after a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 57-year-old taxi driver in central Oshawa Friday afternoon.

On January 21, 2021, at approximately 3:20 pm, members of Central East Division responded to a shooting at King Street East, near Central Park Boulevard. Police responded and located a male beside a taxi with obvious signs of trauma. Emergency Services worked on the male before transporting him to a local hospital. Despite best efforts by medical staff, the victim was pronounced dead. A suspect was arrested near the scene. Homicide investigators continue to investigate this incident, said a police statement.

Investigators are looking for anyone that may have witnessed the shooting to contact them. Anyone with home security or dash-cam video near the scene are asked to contact Det. French of the Major Crime-Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5421.
