Crime Briefs: Car set on fire, tire slashed of another

Police are looking for a suspect after a car was found in flames and another parked nearby with slashed tire, in Oshawa.

On Wednesday, July 3 at 2 am, members of Central East Division responded to a fire call at a residence on Ritson Road North and Beatrice Street East in Oshawa.

Officers arrived to find a Chevrolet Cruze fully engulfed in flames. A second vehicle parked in the driveway had the front tire slashed. The occupants in the residence contacted Oshawa Fire Services who quickly put out the fire. There were no reported injuries.

Investigators are treating this as an arson.

There are no suspect descriptions at this time. Investigators will be reviewing video surveillance in the area.

Car shooting suspects found in Owen Sound

Investigators arrested a wanted male and female suspect in Owen Sound for a shooting incident on Wednesday this week.

On Thursday, July 4, members of the DRPS Tactical Support Unit, Intelligence Unit, K-9 Unit and Owen Sound Police Service assisted investigators from the Central West Division Criminal Investigation Bureau in the arrest of the wanted suspects at a hotel in Owen Sound.

The male and female suspects were taken into custody without incident. Police executed search warrants which resulted in the seizure of a firearm, ammunition and drugs.

Jerome Derby, age 29 and Tara McCarron, age 32, both of No Fixed Address, face numerous firearm-related charges. They were held for a bail hearing. The investigation is still ongoing.

Investigators are looking for anyone who may have dash-cam video of the two cars racing from Consumers Road to the Whitby Mall on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at around 2:30 am.

Several shots fired into a car, victim survives unhurt

Cellphone store robbed in Ajax

Police are looking to identify two suspects following a robbery at an Ajax cellphone store Thursday evening.

On July 4 at about 4:15 pm, members of West Division responded to K-Mobile at Williamson Drive for a robbery call. The clerk indicated two unknown males entered the store, locked the lone employee in the washroom and stole several phones before fleeing on foot. Police checked the area with negative results.

The clerk was not physically injured.

The suspects are described as:

  • Suspect #1 – male with a tanned complexion, 5’7″ tall, medium build, medium-length hair. He wore a dark coloured half-sleeved jacket, dark t-shirt and dark pants.
  • Suspect #2 – male, tanned complexion, 5’9″ tall, heavier build. He wore a black and white summer jacket, blue pants and running shoes.
