Swat and plate reader help nab thieves with stolen car

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday acknowledged the support from Durham’s Swat team and the Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system, which helped them nab suspects with stolen property.

On Saturday, August 30 at about 11:55 pm, members of Central East Division were proactively patrolling the area of Bloor Street East and Simcoe Street South when they received an alert from the ALPR of a stolen vehicle.

With the assistance of the Tactical Support Unit, three parties were taken into custody without incident, police said.

A 44-year-old male, 35-year-old female and 24-year-old female are charged with: Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000.

This incident highlights the effectiveness of the ALPR system in identifying stolen vehicles, leading to the successful recovery of the car and the arrest of three individuals, police said.

They did not release any further details.
