Taser used in arrest of ‘dangerous’ suspect

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said a taser was deployed when officers of Central East Division and Intimate Partner Violence Unit worked collaboratively to bring a dangerous suspect into custody.

On Monday July 24, officers were investigating an incident involving a suspect wanted for a variety of offences, including firearm charges.

While at a scene at a residence in Oshawa, the suspect returned and tried to gain entry, said a police statement.

The officers were in the midst of effecting an arrest when the suspect became violent. A brief struggle ensued, and officers effectively deployed a taser, taking the suspect into custody, it said.

A 28-year old man from Toronto is facing 14 charges and was held for a bail hearing.
