Continued to talk on phone after eye contact with officer

We all know that some phone calls are important, and must be taken – but not by holding the phone to your ear while driving.

You can always use hands-free technology, or just pull-over at a lay-by or a convenient and safe spot, and converse.

But this driver (above) did neither. Not only did he talk on his hand-held device while driving, he continued to do so even after making eye contact with a police officer, according to DRPS Traffic Services.

“Please don’t talk on your phone as you drive. Please don’t continue to talk on the phone after making eye contact [with] our enforcement officers,” it said.

The police said a video was recorded by an evidence collection device.

It said use of hand-held tickets come with a $615 fine, three demerit points and three-day suspension upon conviction.

Hope the lesson was learned.
