Teen charged and let go in crash that injured six other youth

Durham police yesterday said a 17-year-old male is facing charges following a collision investigation that saw several youths suffer injuries in Clarington.

On April 15 at about 11:05 am, members of Central East Division responded to a collision on Longworth Avenue near Jackman Road in Clarington. A Volkswagen hatchback was travelling westbound when it collided with a Ford SUV travelling eastbound.

As a result of the collision, six youth suffered injuries. Four were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, and two were transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious injuries, police said.

Following an investigation by the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit, the driver of the Volkswagen has been arrested and charged.

A 17-year-old male from Clarington was charged and released on an undertaking.
