Teen shot at from car and killed at housing complex

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday reported a fatal shooting in Pickering on Sunday, as a result of which a teen was killed.

In an earlier, tweet, DRPS said: “Police are in the area of Kingston Road and Valleyfarm Road in Pickering for a shooting investigation. One male has been located with life threatening injuries. Please avoid the area. Further information to follow…”

This was followed by a statement that a 17-year-old male has been shot and killed in the overnight shooting.

On Sunday June 18 at about 9:40 pm, members from West Division responded to a housing complex at 1580 Kingston Road in Pickering after receiving reports of a shooting.

Officers arrived on scene and located one male who had been shot.  Officers and paramedics performed life-saving measures; however, the male died at the scene, said the statement.

It is believed that the shots were fired from a vehicle that then fled the area.  The number of suspects involved is unknown at this time; however, police don’t believe there is any further threat to public safety.

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the altercation and may have any information to come forward.  Any witnesses with cellphone video are also encouraged to come forward and speak with investigators.  A mobile command post was scheduled to be in the area yesterday and police were encouraging anyone who has any information to attend the command post.

Police respond to child’s death

Meanwhile, Police Chief Peter Moreira, said on Friday that officers from across the DRPS responded to the death of a child, serious collisions, responded to a homicide and seized two handguns both with extended magazines in two separate incidents, yesterday.

“All of these investigations are ongoing. There are no quiet nights,” he pointed out.
