Ten teen grab-and-run gang faces theft charges

Durham Police yesterday said a group of youths aged 14- to 17-years old are facing charges after stealing several cellphones.

Members of the West Division Property Crimes Unit conducted a month-long investigation after receiving multiple reports of thefts from online ads. The group of youths would locate cellphones for sale online and would arrange a meet to purchase the phone.  Once the seller met with the individuals, they would grab the phone and run away, said a police statement.

As a results 10 youths are now facing a total of 25 charges. All parties were released on an undertaking.

Investigators would like to remind the public to take extra precautions when selling or purchasing items online.  Take extra steps to ensure a profile is legitimate, don’t go alone and meet in busy public spaces.
