Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday evening reported the third homicide of 2026 when a victim was found dead in Oshawa.
“There is a large police presence in the area of Simcoe Street North and Winchester Road East. Police attended the scene for reports of an armed person and located the victim suffering from traumatic injuries,” said a brief police statement.
“The victim was pronounced deceased and the Homicide Unit is investigating. Updates will be provided as they become available,” it added.
The first homicide of 2026 reportedly took place on February 22, when a 78-year old was found dead in a Clarington residence engulfed in flames (see below). A 23-year old suspect has been arrested on manslaughter charges.
The victim of Durham Region’s second murder of the year, has been identified as 24-year-old Thisal (Sam) Sanjula Perera, who was found suffering from traumatic injuries, when police arrived at a residence in Ajax. He, too, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
