Three DDSB schools to remain closed today (May 25)

The Durham District School Board (DDSB) has announced that three of its schools will remain closed today, Wednesday, May 25.

  1. Southwood Park PS (Ajax)
  2. Valley View PS (Pickering)
  3. Uxbridge PS (Uxbridge)

Meanwhile, Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPRDSB) said all its Clarington schools are open. It said virtual schools are also open today.

DDSB said many students may also be without power and therefore, not able to access virtual learning. For this reason, there will be no remote learning taking place on Wednesday.

It said the decision to keep these schools closed has been made to protect the health and safety of students, parents/guardians and staff due to the impact of the storm.

Schools Reopening on Wednesday, May 25

The following schools that were closed on Tuesday will be reopening on Wednesday as power has been fully restored and the schools are safe for staff and students.

  • Lincoln Avenue PS (Ajax)
  • Goodwood PS (Uxbridge)
  • Joseph Gould PS (Uxbridge)
  • Uxbridge SS (Uxbridge)
  • E.A. Fairman PS (Whitby)

“As our community continues to deal with the impacts of this severe storm, we understand that some students may not be able to attend school. Schools will support those students as needed.”

“The DDSB is thinking of all those within our community who have been impacted by the storm and would like to thank all those working tirelessly around the clock to restore power. We would also like to thank those who have assisted neighbours during this challenging time,” the statement added.

“A huge THANK YOU to all the hard-working municipal workers that kept our region moving during the unbelievable storm this past weekend. We appreciate your effort and commitment to keeping our community safe!” said the DDSB.
