Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) last night reported that a three-year old has been a victim of a drowning incident in Ajax.
On Tuesday May 23 at about 5:15 pm, members of West Division responded to a residential home in the area of Harwood Avenue and Rossland Road West in Ajax for reports of a drowning.
A female child was removed from a neighbouring backyard pool without vital signs. The young female was rushed to a local-area hospital where she unfortunately was pronounced, said a statement issued today.
The DRPS continue to support the family during this horrible tragedy and encourage all families to exercise extreme care when dealing with water safety during the summer months.

Last night police said: “At this time we are requesting privacy for the family. Our thoughts are with the family and all emergency personnel.”
Meanwhile, DRPS Traffic Services also offered condolences. “Our thoughts are with the family involved and our hearts also go out to all the emergency responders,” it said referring to DRPS, Durham Paramedic, Ajax Fire, and more.
“Our members, many of whom are fathers/mothers/sons and daughters, raced to this call to try and help. A tragic loss that impacts us all,” said a tweet.
