“We ask residents to avoid the area. Detours are available via alternate local roads,” the statement added.

The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (Cloca) had earlier issued an alert over hazardous creek conditions.

It had advised that the forecasted rainfall combined with frozen ground conditions, warm temperatures, and associated snowmelt could result in increased runoff causing higher than normal water levels and flows in streams. In addition, melting ice and snow may contribute to ice jams and blockages, especially at bridges and culverts, which may lead to localized flooding. Widespread flooding was not anticipated, however fast flowing water and flooding of low-lying areas and roadways may be expected in flood-prone areas, it said.

Cloca asked all residents to stay away from all watercourses, shorelines, and structures such as bridges, culverts and dams. Increased wave activity, elevated water levels, fast-flowing water, and slippery conditions along stream banks and Lake Ontario shorelines continue to make these locations extremely dangerous. Please remind children of these dangers, it said

This Flood Outlook Statement was in effect till yesterday (Monday, March 7) or until further notice. The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority said it will continue to monitor the conditions of the streams and will provide updates as required.

New traffic signal timing at Ritson Road

The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents and road users of updated traffic signal timing at two intersections on Ritson Road (Regional Road 16) in the City of Oshawa.

  • When: As of March 9, the new signal timing will be implemented. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
  • Where: At the intersections of Ritson Road and King Street, and Ritson Road and Bond Street.

Similar changes have already been made on Stevenson Road and Park Road at both the King Street and Bond Street intersections.

Drivers should remember to follow all traffic control signals as outlined in the Highway Traffic Act, said a region statement.
