Traffic restrictions in Oshawa, Whitby, Clarington

The Regional Municipality of Durham has announced lane restrictions and road closures in various parts of Durham including Oshawa, Whitby, Scugog and Clarington.

It advised of eastbound and westbound lane restrictions on Champlain Avenue (Regional Road 25) in the City of Oshawa.

  • When: July 27 to 31 (daytime only)
  • Where: Champlain Avenue, from 150m west of Fox Street to Fox Street.
  • Why: To safely install water service and storm sewers in support of a new development.

Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.

Road closure on Townline Road North

The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of a north and southbound road closure on Townline Road North (Regional Road 55) in the City of Oshawa.

  • When: July 27 to 29 (day and night work)
  • Where: Townline Road North, from Pebblestone Road to Maddock Drive, in the City of Oshawa.
  • Why: To safely install water and sanitary service.

Note: Traffic will be diverted by a signed detour route. Municipal construction projects include the use of equipment which may cause noticeable noise and vibration for nearby residents.

Lane restrictions on Victoria Street in Whitby

The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of lane restrictions on Victoria Street (Regional Road 22) in the Town of Whitby.

  • When: Saturday, July 25 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
  • Where: Victoria Street, at the intersection of South Blair Street, in the Town of Whitby. Victoria Street will be reduced to one lane in both directions at the intersection of South Blair Street.
  • Why: To safely construct a new watermain.

Bowmanville Queen Street to close

Queen Street will close from Lambert Street to Liberty Street on Thursday, July 23, from 8 am to approximately 6 pm for crane operation. Detours available via local alternates.

Scugog Queen Street

Portions of Queen Street will be opened up to pedestrians and closed to vehicular traffic on weekends starting July 25 in order to expand the walking space and support physical distancing within downtown Port Perry.

In light of ongoing Covid-19 requirements, Township staff, the BIA, Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Advisory Committee and Tourism Advisory Committee all support improving physical distancing within the downtown on weekends throughout the summer of 2020. The enhanced Queen Street pedestrian areas will allow people to move safely in the downtown again while supporting local businesses.

Queen Street will be opened to pedestrians and closed to vehicular traffic on Saturdays and Sundays between Perry Street and Water Street. The sidewalk will also be expanded into the existing on-street parking area on the north side of Queen Street between John Street and Perry Street, while the sidewalk is already wider on the south side of Queen Street in this area.

Public parking is free in the downtown area with nine municipal parking lots available. In addition to municipal parking lots in the downtown, additional private parking will be made available to the public behind the Visitor’s Centre (250 Queen Street), on weekends. On-street parking will continue to be available on the south side of Queen Street between John and Perry. There will also be five new temporary accessible parking spaces added along Perry Street and Water Street to replace the accessible parking spaces unavailable along the closed part of Queen Street.

The Queen Street pedestrian project will commence on July 25 and run each weekend for at least 4 weekends. Depending on the success of the project, there may be an opportunity to extend it to Labour Day weekend.

Coulter Street, Country Estates Drive & Waterbury Crescent

There are curb and sidewalk installation and repairs along Coulter Street, Country Estates Drive, and Waterbury Crescent starting the week of July 20. The repairs will take approximately three (3) working days to complete, weather dependent.

Construction Hours: Noise prohibitions are required from 2200 hours (10:00pm) of one day to 0600 hours (6:00am) of the next day.

During the work, traffic control measures will be in place as required and pedestrian access will be prohibited through this area for the duration of the works.
