Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said officers from its Central West Division were in the area of Westfield Drive and Des Newman Boulevard in Whitby for reports of gunshots.
One victim was located at a local area hospital. The wounded person is in stable condition, said a brief police statement.
This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety at this time, police said.
DRPS said the investigation is ongoing without releasing any further details.
