There is still time to visit Oshawa’s 16th annual Peony Festival, online at www.oshawa.ca/peony.
Named one of Ontario’s Top 100 Festivals and Events for eight consecutive years, the virtual festival runs until June 26, with special features including videos of the gardens, expert talks, gardening tips and online crafts for children, said a city statement.
The annual Peony Festival Art Contest is also back with community members invited to submit one of their own artistic interpretation of the flower in any art medium including photographs.

Community members are invited to share past photos and stories illustrating their previous memories at the Peony Festival by tagging @OshawaCulture on Twitter with the hashtags #OurOshawa, #OshEvents and #OshawaPeonies. Select memories and images will be shared on the City’s social media platforms.
“The Oshawa Botanical Garden is big – but not that big, so if you feel you must visit the site visitors are reminded that social distancing must be maintained at all times. For anyone who would prefer to stay home, that’s why this ‘virtual tour’, video presentations, and other colourful features on the website ought to provide the best alternative during this unfortunate pandemic time. Stay home and enjoy the show!” said Councillor Rick Kerr, Chair of the Community Services Committee and Regional and City Councillor for Ward 4.
“As we continue to adapt to the challenges of this pandemic, our staff have worked to bring the award-winning Peony Festival into your homes, and there are fresh ways that you can participate and be involved in the festival,” said Councillor Derek Giberson, Vice-Chair of the Community Services Committee and City Councillor for Ward 4.
