Whitby car chase ends in takedown on Highway 401

Durham Police yesterday said two males have been arrested following a brief pursuit in Whitby that ended on Highway 401.

On Friday September 8 at about 5:45 am, members of Central West Division were contacted by a local business owner to report that two suspects were attempting to break into his storefront in the area of Wentworth Street West, in Whitby.

Police arrived on scene and located the suspect vehicle which immediately fled the area. Police pursued the suspect vehicle onto the Highway 401 until they were able to safely block it in at the Stevenson Road off ramp of the eastbound lanes, said a police statement.

Two male suspects then fled the vehicle on foot, but were arrested a short distance away. Minor injuries were reported by both suspects and an officer on scene. All parties were cleared medically and SIU has not been invoked. OPP assisted with the closure of the Highway 401.

One male suspect, age 30, and another age 43, both of Brampton, were charged and held for a bail hearing. Names and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Det. Bacon of Central West Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1845.
