No Lakeshore East works this week. Trains will run normally: Metrolinx

Metrolinx, the operator of GO service, has confirmed that GO trains on Lakeshore East will run normally tonight and through this week.

There is an important Blue Jays game against Texas Rangers tonight in Toronto.

“Thank you so much! I can confirm the work is not happening this week… I don’t yet have reasoning on why the notice had this work included in it originally but have confirmed with our operations team that this is not happening,” said a spokesperson for Metrolinx.

On August 29, Metrolinx had announced work on overhead utilities overnight which would require rolling Highway 401 lane closures from today, September 11 until the 15th. The notice also said there will also be no train service on the Lakeshore East Corridor during the work time (see below). It said site work will be between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am.

A clarification update from Metrolinx said an accurate construction notice (here) was sent out and posted via twitter which notes that while there will be utilities work happening this week, there are no transit impacts to customers.

However, within the latest Durham Region e-newsletter sent August 29, the “no train service on the LSE corridor during this time” accidentally remained there from another past construction notice. As such, this was a drafting error within the latest regional e-newsletter, Metrolinx said.

  1. Trains ARE running tonight on the Lakeshore East Line. Spoke with GO Transit customer service today who acknowledged this article but said it is incorrect.

    1. Thanks – good to know. The article is based on an advisory issued by Metrolinx dated August 29, 2023. They have yet not issued a clarification.
