Simcoe Street South to be closed again this weekend

The City of Oshawa has announced that unfinished work from the previous closure, is scheduled for completion this coming weekend, requiring a full closure of Simcoe Street South.

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is undertaking work to replace the Simcoe Street South and Albert Street overpass structures along Highway 401 in Oshawa.

“As part of the construction operations, MTO will be implementing an additional weekend full closure of Simcoe Street South from First Avenue, south to Bloor Street and including the Highway 401 westbound on-ramp, said a city notice.

It said closure is scheduled to start Saturday, September 9 at 6 am until 6 am on Monday, September 11.

It is to perform excavation and installation of a structure and 900 mm storm sewer crossings across Simcoe Street. Due to water issues, the crossing of Simcoe Street at Lviv Blvd. could not be completed during the weekend closure of August 26-28 and will require another closure and detour September 9 to 11 to complete this work, the city said.

It said during this period, both lanes of Simcoe Street will be closed from First Avenue, south to Bloor Street and including the Highway 401 westbound on-ramp.

Southbound traffic on Simcoe Street will be detoured at First Avenue. Northbound traffic will be detoured at Bloor Street. Lviv Blvd. will be closed with local traffic only.

All detour routes will be clearly outlined by the appropriate detour signage to guide traffic.

Project information is available on at Oshawa.ca/MTO.
