Durham Police said a 22-year-old male is facing sexual assault and kidnapping charges after a female was reported being forcibly taken from Toronto to Heber Down Conservation Area in Whitby, Monday morning.
On the evening of Sunday, September 3, in the Toronto area, the victim reported she was sleeping in her vehicle with her doors locked, when the male broke the glass of her window. The victim was pulled out of the vehicle and sexually assaulted, said a police statement.
The male then forced the victim back into the vehicle and drove to a green space in Whitby. The male threw the victim’s phone and keys into long grass to prevent the victim from escaping. The male then forcibly removed the victim from the vehicle and sexually assaulted her again.
The victim was able to break free from the male and use his phone to contact police early Monday morning. This male was not known to the victim, police said.
The Oshawa suspect was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
Investigators want to ensure there are no further victims and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Anyone with new information is asked to contact D/Cst. Giguere of Central West Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1852.
