Winter is coming with cold, snowy and slippery conditions, and the Town of Ajax has provided some tips and reminders to Ajax and Durham residents on how to get through the white months ahead.
Important reminders for residents:
- Follow the municipal crews and their progress on live Plow Maps
- Vehicles may not be parked on-street during winter storm events. Parked vehicles may be subject to fines and/or towing at the owner’s expense.
- During winter storm events, the municipalities clear roadways from curb to curb on a priority basis.
- To give plows a lot of room, ensure your vehicle is not hanging onto the road. Any vehicle hanging onto the roadway may be ticketed and/or towed at the owner’s expense.
- Please remember that unless you qualify for the snow removal program for qualified residents, clearing the snow from the end of your driveway (windrows) is the responsibility of the homeowner.
- The snow removal program for qualified residents is activated 24 hours after snow has stopped falling and there is more than 5 cm (2 inches) of snow.
- Ice and snow must be removed from the sidewalk surrounding your home, within 24 hours of a snowfall.
Ajax said its By-law Services and Operations teams are ready to respond to snow and winter weather to help keep everyone safe. The town provides essential winter response services before, during and after a snowfall, including maintaining roads, sidewalks, trails, emergency access roads, parking lots and school crossings.
With months of preparation and planning invested into the winter control response, the town’s program officially commences annually on November 15, which includes proactive patrols for vehicles parked on the street during inclement weather events, as well as the Town’s live plow map, allowing residents to check the status of our snowplows on Town-owned roads at any time.
