Woman dies in head-on collision, two in hospital

Durham Police said a 47-year-old female is deceased, and a 19-year-old male is in critical condition after a head-collision on Island Road in Scugog Township.

On Saturday, May 13 at about 3:05 am, members from North Division responded to a head-on-collision between two vehicles on Island Road north of Demara Road in Scugog Township.

A Nissan SUV was travelling southbound on Island Road when a four-door Hyundai, traveling northbound, crossed over the center line causing the vehicles to collide head-on. The female driver of the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the scene, a male passenger from the same vehicle was transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries. The male driver of the Hyundai was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he remains in critical condition, said a police statement.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected.

  1. I would be willing to bet that this accident was caused by distracted driving. A terrible tragedy caused by carelessness, what ever the immediate cause.
