Woman in trauma centre after Mercedes-dump truck crash

Durham Police yesterday said a 29-year-old female was seriously injured after a dump truck collided with her vehicle in Pickering.

On Thursday, September 21 at about 9:30 am, members of West Division responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Taunton Road and Whites Road in Pickering.

Upon arrival, officers observed a white Mercedes and red Freightliner dump truck with trailer off the roadway. It was reported that the Mercedes was travelling westbound on Taunton Road and made a left turn onto Whites Road when it was struck by a dump truck travelling eastbound on Taunton Road, said a police statement.

The driver of the Mercedes sustained life-threatening injuries and was air lifted to a Toronto area trauma centre. Her condition has since been upgraded to stable. The driver of the dump truck was not injured, police said.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
