Yet another pole downed by Durham drivers?

Oshawa Power yesterday reported that a traffic collision in Oshawa caused a power outage with live wires on the ground.

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers were at the scene and closed off Ritson Road South, between Olive and Dean. “Avoid the area,” they said in a tweet.

It appears a hydro pole was downed – the 12th so far this year, according to a Durham Post count. The news provider has a theory that drivers find Durham hydro poles irresistible.

Oshawa Power said it received reports of motor vehicle accident between a garbage truck and car at Ritson and Dean.

“There are live wires down. Stay away from area. There is a power outage in the area. Be safe and allow first responders through. Treat non-functioning traffic lights as a four-way stop.”

Crews rushed to the location and were on site to repair and restore power. Oshawa Power said the outage affected 1,305 customers in Southeast Oshawa.

The clincher was the last tweet – “Power restored in Southeast Oshawa. Cause: Foreign Interference”
