Durham Police said two males are in custody after an investigation into a $1.4 million jewelry store robbery in Ajax.
The police report did not state if the loot had been recovered.
On Monday, December 30, at about 1:10 pm, members of West Division responded to a robbery at VP Jewellery, located on Harwood Avenue North. Police stated that two male suspects entered the store, tied up an employee, and stole an estimated $1.4 million of gold, silver, and jewelry. The suspects fled the area on foot prior to police arrival.
On Monday, January 20, after further investigation by the Robbery Unit, with the assistance of the Video Analysis Unit and the Offender Management Unit (OMU), police said they located the first suspect in the Hamilton area. Officers took the suspect into custody without incident.
On Tuesday, January 21, members of the Robbery Unit, with the assistance of OMU, located the second suspect in North York, where officers took him into custody without incident. Police stated that members of the Robbery Unit subsequently conducted a warrant at the residence of the second suspect.
A 37-year-old male of No Fixed Address and a 41-year-old male from Richmond Hill were both charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
