13-year-old held for threatening to ‘shoot up’ Oshawa school

A 13-year-old was reported to have been arrested after an online threat was made against a school in Oshawa.

On Friday, January 31, at about 8:40 pm, members of East Division say they responded to a residence in Oshawa after an individual reported receiving a school-related threat via Snapchat.

Officers conducted an investigation and determined that a 13-year-old was reported to have made a threat to numerous people over Snapchat stating that Pierre Elliott Trudeau Public School, located at 1111 Beatrice Street East in Oshawa, was going to get “shot up”.

The 13-year-old was located at their home address and arrested.

Police stated that they take all threats to school safety seriously and conduct investigations to protect students, staff, and the community. In this incident, investigators reported that they determined there was no risk to public safety and no viable threat to the school.
