Here’s who all are running for mayor in your municipality
The next municipal election will be held on Monday, October 26, and there are 38 residents running for mayor in the eight municipalities that comprise the Region of Durham.
Another 185 residents are aspiring to be elected either to the regional council or their respective town councils.
In total, there are 223 candidates who have registered for the upcoming Durham municipal elections.
Registration opened on May 1 and closed on August 21.
On May 7, the provincial government passed Bill 100, Better Regional Governance Act, 2026, which changes how the Regional Chair is selected—from being elected by residents to being appointed by the province. This means that the Office of Regional Chair will not be included for the 2026 municipal election.
Regional councillors will continue to be elected.
Town of Ajax:
Incumbent Mayor Shaun Collier is not standing for re-election. Candidates running for mayor are:
- Marilyn Crawford
- Carion Fenn
- Richard Hinds
- Ashmeed Khan
- Vian Persad
- Sajid Raza Rehman withdrew his nomination
In Ajax, 36 residents registered to run for the six (6) regional council and town council seats. Later, five withdrew their nominations.
Township of Brock
Candidates running for mayor in Brock:
- Michael Jubb
- Brenda Thyne
In Brock, 15 residents have registered to run for the six (6) regional council and town council seats.
Municipality of Clarington
Candidates running for mayor in Clarington:
- Tom Dingwall
- Adrian Foster
In Clarington, 19 residents have registered to run for the six (6) regional council and town council seats.
City of Oshawa
Incumbent Mayor Dan Carter is not running for re-election. Candidates running for mayor are:
- Sherland Chhangur
- Michael Coons
- Derek Giberson
- Jeremy Large
- Jim Lee
- Tito-Dante Marimpietri
- Henry Onwuachu
- Joseph Tomlins
- Dave Westlake
In Oshawa, 49 residents have registered to run for the ten (10) regional council and town council seats.
City of Pickering

In Pickering, 20 residents have registered to run for the six (6) regional council and town council seats.

In Uxbridge, 15 residents have registered to run for the six (6) regional council and town council seats.
Town of Whitby
