$490 fine + 6 demerit points for passing stopped school bus

Durham police officers noticed a car (top image) in Bowmanville in the Municipality of Clarington had failed to stop for a school bus.

The fine issued was $490, and the driver was given six demerit points.

Police asked for the public to stop for school buses and protect the kids.

Seatbelt & Stop Enforcement

Durham police also announced that it is conducting a seatbelt and stop sign enforcement for the “In The Zone” initiative which focuses on protecting children by making sure they’re wearing a seatbelt, and using the right car seat or booster seat to reduce the risk of injury or death in a collision.

Under Ontario’s One Person, One Seatbelt law; every occupant in a motor vehicle is required to buckle up properly.

Road Closures

Police reported that there had been two road closures across the region.

The first  closure was in Whitby. The eastbound lanes of Rossland Road West between Walton Street and Brock Street were closed for a collision investigation. The roadway was later re-opened.

In Oshawa, Wilson Road North between Bond Street East and Colborne Street East was also closed for a collision investigation. Motorists were asked to find an alternative route.
