Last week, officers from Durham Regional Police Service(DRPS) East Division, with the assistance of Clarington and Oshawa By-Law, conducted an ‘In The Zone’ traffic initiative focused on the four major causes of vehicle fatalities.
The four major causes targeted include:
- Aggressive Driving – including speeding, stunt driving, school zone violations, failure to stop, and disobeying traffic signs
- Distracted Driving – with a focus on handheld device use
- Impaired Driving
- Seat Belt Violations
Enforcement Results:
• 623 Provincial Offence Notices
• 87 Clarington By-Law offence notices
• 106 Oshawa By-Law offence notices
• 50 warnings
“This initiative highlights our continued commitment to improving road safety and reducing serious and fatal collisions through targeted enforcement and education, said a DRPS statement.
“These results reflect the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between police and municipal By Law partners, and serve as a reminder that traffic laws are in place to protect those on roadways,” it added.
Police asked rivers to:
✅ Slow down.
✅ Stay focused.
✅ Drive sober.
✅ Buckle up.
