97-year old succumbs to Pickering crash injuries

ADurham Police yesterday said a 97-year-old male from Ajax has died in hospital following a collision in Pickering.

On Wednesday, May 29 at about 12:42 pm, members from West Division responded to a collision on Taunton Road near William Jackson Drive.

Two-vehicles collided in the eastbound lanes of Taunton Road. A grey Honda CRV was eastbound on Taunton Road when it attempted to complete a U-turn to turn and go westbound on Taunton Road. While trying to turn, the vehicle collided with an eastbound silver Mercedes approaching from behind. The driver and three passengers of the Honda were treated for injuries and transported to hospital. The driver of the Mercedes was not injured, said a police report.

A portion of the roadway was closed for several hours while police completed their investigation and collected evidence.

On Tuesday, June 4, a 97-year-old male, who was a passenger in the Honda, succumbed to his injuries while in the hospital, police said.
