A male has been arrested after drugs and an automatic firearm were located in a vehicle during a traffic stop in Clarington.
On Wednesday, May 29 at about 11:35 pm, members of East Division, with the assistance of the K9 Unit and Air1, responded to a suspicious vehicle call in the area of King Avenue West and Church Street, in Newcastle.
The driver of a BMW SUV with front-end damage, was observed attempting to enter a closed bank. The vehicle was tracked by Air1 until officers arrived in the area. A traffic stop was initiated a short distance away, where officers observed a firearm in the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody without incident. Drugs and a firearm with a fully automatic function were seized from the vehicle, said a police report.
The suspect, age 20 from Clarington was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
