How could year end without another pole hit?

We have been trying to track announced pole hits in Durham to lend credence to our theory of a mysterious attraction between drivers and Durham poles.

Just as we were resigning ourselves to a peaceful end to the year, yet another driver left his mark on yet another Durham pole – the 15th hit of this year.

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) early yesterday reported a motor vehicle collision.

Officers responded to a call at about 6am at Simcoe Street North and Bond Street West in Oshawa.

They found a vehicle crashed into a pole. The suspect driver had fled the scene on foot.

Officers from the DRPS Central East Division located the driver a short distance away, who was taken into custody under suspicion of impaired driving.

The area was subsequently cleared.
