Durham to monitor vehicles, cyclists usage of roads

As part of the Region of Durham’s Annual Count Program, contractors will be installing hoses on regional roads and multi-use paths, to count vehicular and cyclist volumes and speeds.

The data collected from the hoses will inform the region’s long-term planning initiatives, said a statement.

Hoses and traffic recording equipment will be installed throughout the region until October.

The data is necessary to inform the region’s long-term planning initiatives and short-term countermeasures related to the Durham Vision Zero program.

Durham Vision Zero is a long-term plan to ensure the safest possible transportation system that sees no lives lost or serious injuries on Durham’s roadways. Learn more about the program at durham.ca/VisionZero.
