Orono residents, firms told to conserve water for tower repair

The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents and businesses in Orono to follow water conservation measures as maintenance work begins on the local water tower.

The measures are in effect immediately and will continue until August 15. According to the region, the timeline may be adjusted depending on weather conditions.

The work is taking place in Orono, within the Municipality of Clarington. Durham Region states the conservation efforts are necessary to ensure adequate water levels are available in case of emergencies, including fire protection.

All municipal water supply users in Orono are being asked to limit non-essential outdoor water use, such as washing cars or cleaning driveways and decks.

While the region is working to maintain normal water service during the maintenance period, some residents may experience fluctuations in water pressure. In addition, some hydrants may discharge or release water as part of efforts to manage system pressure.
