Minivan driver charged after striking e-bike rider

Durham police say a 28-year-old man was taken to hospital after an e-bike and a vehicle collided in Whitby Thursday night.

According to police, the crash happened around 8:30 pm on August 7, at the intersection of Lakeridge Road South and Dundas Street West. Investigators say the e-bike was heading east on Dundas Street West when it struck a westbound Toyota Sienna that was turning left to go south on Lakeridge Road South.

The e-bike rider was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police closed the roadway in the area while they collected evidence.

The driver of the minivan has been charged with making an unsafe turn.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Schoch at 905-579-1520.
