Lakeridge one step closer to land transfer for new hospital

The Town of Whitby has announced that Lakeridge Health has submitted a pre-capital planning grant submission to the Ministry of Health.

Once approved, it will allow for the land transfer from the Ministry of Transportation to the Town of Whitby to proceed to the Treasury Board for final approval, said a town update on the new hospital.

Mayor Elizabeth Roy recently met with Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria and Whitby MPP Lorne Coe to discuss local priorities, including the importance of securing the land transfer for the hospital.

The selected site of the new hospital is owned by Ontario Ministry of Transport.

To support the project, the town is working with the Lakeridge Health Foundation on an upcoming major fundraising campaign. As a grassroots initiative, Whitby has partnered with local company Vintage Apparel Co. to sell custom hoodies, with nearly half of the proceeds from each sale going toward the new hospital. Hoodies can be purchased at shop.vintageapparelco.com. For more information on the project and how to donate, visit whitby.ca/NewHospital.

Hospice Project

Construction is also progressing on Hospice Whitby – Roger Anderson House, a 10-bed hospice residence located at Prince of Wales Drive and Crawforth Street.

The town reports that curb removal, erosion and sediment control, and topsoil stripping are now complete.

Work is currently underway on grading, swale construction, and rip rap installation—important steps for managing surface water and building proper drainage.
