Shelter dogs get more room to run thanks to $50K grant

Shelter dogs in Clarington now have twice the space to run, play, and enjoy the outdoors thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Marilyn Neaves Charitable Foundation Trust.

Completed this summer, the expansion doubled the size of the dog run from one individual-use area to four secure outdoor zones, now complete with shade canopies, said a municipal statement.

This upgrade supports the health and well-being of animals awaiting adoption. With more consistent access to fresh air and exercise, dogs experience reduced stress and improved socialization, helping them transition more smoothly into future homes.

“The dogs and puppies in our shelter aren’t just animals, they’re someone’s future pet. We want to give them lots of space to play outside and the best possible care while they wait to become part of their new families,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster. “Thank you to the Marilyn Neaves Charitable Foundation for their generous grant. It’s bringing so much joy to the dogs in our shelter.”
