Air1 called in to stop stunt driver on Highway 401

Durham Regional Police Services (DRPS) yesterday said police helicopter Air1, as well as additional forces, were called in to pursue and stop an aggressive and dangerous driver.

On February 4 at 10:33 pm, police received a report of dangerous driving westbound on Highway 401 near Liverpool Road.

Officers from DRPS West Division observed a black sedan in express lanes travelling at a high rate of speed. They called in Air1 and additional cruisers who followed the vehicle safely to the area of Don Mills and Fairview Mall Drive in Toronto, where the driver was stopped.

A 26-year old man from Whitby is charged with Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance and Stunt Driving, police said. His car was impounded and the licence suspended for seven days.

Port Perry driver does 157 kmh in 80 zone

A 21-year old man from Port Perry has been charged with Speeding, Stunt Driving and Careless Driving after he was caught doing 157 kmh in an 80 kmh zone.

A member of the Traffic Services Branch stopped the driver on February 4 after 10 pm on Lake Rdge Road  and Medd Road.

His vehicle has been impounded and his licence suspended for seven days.
