Ajax has directed staff to formalize negotiations with Ashley Manor Housing Corporation for an affordable housing project on a parcel of town-owned land.
A closed session of the general government committee was held on the Letter of Agreement with Ashley Manor Housing Corporation on June 15 to discuss a proposed or pending acquisition or disposition of land by the municipality or local board.
Possible locations for the property have not yet been disclosed.
Council expressed a strong desire to see this project be focused on seniors, and for it to include significant public consultation.
While there is still work ahead to finalize the details, Mayor Shaun Collier stated that he is “excited that efforts are progressing and look forward to being able to share more with residents in the near future”.
The Ashley Manor Housing Corporation (AMHC), formerly Ajax Municipal Housing Corporation, has been providing affordable housing in the Town of Ajax for more than 30 years. With 574 rental apartments and townhouses AMHC is the third largest non-profit housing provider in the Region of Durham.
