Ajax invites residents to meet with Olympic athletes

The Ajax community is invited to meet the Olympic Athletes from Ajax that competed at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Meet Sadé McCreath and Duan Asemota, both Olympic sprinters, on Wednesday, November 27, from 6:30 – 7:30 pm at the Ajax Community Centre (75 Centennial Road) in the HMS Room.

Attendees will have a chance to meet, take photos with and receive a signed collectible card from the athletes. Sweet treats will also be available.

“I would like to congratulate Ajax’s Olympic Athletes on competing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the years of hard work and dedication it took to get there. I thank them for representing Canada on the world stage so well and am proud they call Ajax their hometown. Ajax Council is excited and grateful for this opportunity for Ajax residents to meet their local Olympian heroes,” said Mayor Shaun Collier.

  • The Paris 2024 Olympic Games took place from July 26 to August 11. Billions of worldwide television viewers and millions of in-person spectators watched 10,500 athletes from around the globe compete across 45 sports. Team Canada won 27 medals and placed 12th out of 84 countries.
  • Sadé McCreath is a Canadian Sprinter from Ajax, Ontario. Her Olympic debut was Paris 2024, where she placed sixth in the Women’s 4×100 metre (m) relay event, setting a new Canadian record of 42.50 seconds with her teammates. She was also appointed the alternate for the Women’s 100 metre (m). She was a member of the 4x100m team that finished second at the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24, securing Canada a relay spot for Paris 2024.
  • Duan Asemota is a Canadian Sprinter from Ajax, Ontario. His Olympic debut was Paris 2024, where he placed fifth in his heat, and twenty-ninth in the qualifiers overall, in the Men’s 100m with a time of 10.17 seconds. He was also appointed as an alternate for the Men’s 4x100m relay team. He placed fourth at the 2024 Canadian Olympic Trials in the 100m.
  • Nichelle Prince (attendance TBD) is a Canadian Soccer Forward from Ajax, Ontario. Her Olympic debut was Rio 2016, where the Canadian Women’s Soccer Team took home bronze medals. She started five of Canada’s six games at Tokyo 2020, where the team won gold and became Olympic Champions.
  • Parking is available outside of the HMS Room entrance (south side of the building). The room cannot be accessed from the main entrance of the Ajax Community Centre, directional signage will be on-site.
